A retired Military officer who performed a key position in India’s surgical strikes in Myanmar in 2015 will now assist the Manipur authorities sort out the unrest within the state that has claimed over 170 lives previously two months.
The Manipur authorities on August 24 appointed Colonel (retired) Nectar Sanjenbam as senior superintendent (fight) in Manipur police division for a five-year tenure. The Military officer has served within the 21 Para (Particular Forces) and was awarded the Kirti Chakra – the second-highest peacetime gallantry award — and Shaurya Chakra — the third highest.
An order issued by Manipur’s joint secretary (house) on August 28 stated that the appointment was made after the cupboard determination of June 12.
The Shaurya Chakra quotation for the embellished officer says he “displayed meticulous planning, exemplary gallantry, daring and daring motion below most difficult circumstances”.
The appointment comes because the N Biren Singh authorities and the centre depart no stone unturned to verify incidents of violence within the Northeastern state.
Over the previous 5 days, a minimum of a dozen folks have died and over 30 injured in incidents of firing and explosions on the border areas between Meitie-dominated valley areas and Kuki-dominated hills.
The unrest was sparked by a Manipur Excessive Courtroom order that requested the state authorities to suggest Scheduled Tribe standing for Meities. This protest turned violent when Kukis and Meitis clashed close to the border between Churanchandpur and Bishnupur, district, setting off the unrest that has killed many and displaced 1000’s.
